Philosophy / Approach

My approach matters little compared to yours. I’m here to listen, offer expertise where appropriate, and support you on realizing your vision for motherhood. My philosophy is heavily colored by my yoga practice, which has included extended periods of silence and meditation. To me, slow living and meditation are keys to a fulfilling, healthy life. In the first 42 days after birth, slow living must include proper self care, nutrition, rest and meditation. I’m here to provide for your needs in these areas so you may enter motherhood with as much balance as possible.

Why Ayurveda?

We have lost touch with the traditional ways of caring for mothers. In most cultures, there is a library of recipes for healing after birth, historically prepared by a community of women supporting the mother. Today, many mothers are left to their own devices, getting a cold turkey sandwich – and a cold turkey approach to personal care – after birth. I’m here to change that.

The Ayurvedic approach is steeped in a philosophy that speaks to our culture’s need for more time and space. A central principle of Ayurveda is to move slowly and leave a little space (space on your plate, space in your tummy, space in your schedule!). This, combined with the Ayurvedic theory of balance, makes the Ayurvedic approach ideal for the post partum woman.

When you go into labor, I start cooking your first meal. It will cook throughout your labor, arriving to you in the hospital or home within hours of birth, infused with high vibrations for your transition into the fourth trimester. (*Of course, labor is often not straight forward! I am flexible in the case of scheduled deliveries, cesareans, middle of the night babies … it is the overriding intention and not the specific case that matters most.)

Your meals are designed to fully support your body, energy, mood and mind. Really, your whole home is supported when you receive this care.
